Sandblasting Suit – Maximum Protection For Abrasive Environments
Protect your operators against the hazards of abrasive blasting with industry-specific PPE designed for maximum comfort, safety and durability. These suits have been carefully engineered for maximum performance across every facet – head-to-toe!
Breathable cotton fabric on the back helps keep operators cool, while leather panels protect front arms and legs from rebounding abrasive material. Adjustable straps at leg and arm cuffs help ensure an optimal fit while keeping out dust.
Respiratory Protection
Worker safety requires them to breathe easily while working in harsh environments, and in order to do this they need proper respiratory protection such as respirators and face shields as well as safety glasses and gloves.
Workers conducting dry blasting must use an SCBA or supplied air respirator that has been properly fitted tested. Many manufacturers, such as Bullard, offer sandblasting respirators with 1000 APF, head and face protection and climate tubes and torso cooling systems that help mitigate heat stress.
Regular inspection of equipment should also include verifying that there are no holes or rips in respirators or suit. Holes allow dangerous dusts into the respiratory system and cause injuries – byvoorbeeld, overexposure to airborne crystalline silica over time may lead to silicosis which is a deadly disease which requires protection in order to be avoided.
Ventilasie
Sandblasting releases dust particles into the work environment, so proper ventilation is vitally important. A suitable blast suit must offer optimal airflow while simultaneously protecting its operator from heat, cold, dust, noise and other irritants.
A blaster produces compressed air flow that propels an abrasive media onto metal surfaces. This media may vary in density, hardness and type – harder abrasives tend to have greater effects on metal surfaces compared with soft ones.
The RPB Nova 3 blast hood provides protection for face and neck from harmful debris while attenuating sound effectively. Constructed of superior materials to ensure durability in high performance environments. Also features an internal padding layer for maximum comfort as well as adjustable straps to provide the optimal fit and fit.
Gloves
Gloves provide protection for hands from blast media dust, irritants and abrasions as well as hazardous chemicals present. Selecting an appropriate glove material depends upon its intended chemical application, frequency of exposure duration and skin absorption risk.
An effective starting point should be to determine what chemicals need to be handled and whether or not they are soluble or volatile, in order to establish whether lining or unlining gloves should be selected, as well as which thickness level might best meet requirements.
At OSH Answers, the best approach for selecting personal protective clothing will be found by consulting our fact sheet “Personal Protective Clothing – Trade Names, Manufacturers.” Many manufacturers also provide chemical compatibility charts under “Useful Resources” on this page; you should also take into consideration how workers plan to don/doff gloves as well as any tasks they will be performing that might impact hand protection needs.
Boots
Safety-standard compliant work boots are an integral component of a sandblasting suit, designed to safeguard against impacts, compression and static hazards, thermal risks, slipperiness or falls, foot fatigue prevention as well as other potential injuries in particular work environments.
Alloy toe boots use lightweight alloy materials to offer protection and comfort for those on their feet for extended periods. Their slimmer profile reduces fatigue for wearers while increasing movement flexibility; steel toe boots provide similar levels of protection with more traditional designs.
Warehouses containing exposed live wires or high voltage electric machinery run the risk of electrocuting workers if they do not wear the appropriate work boots. Electrical hazard boots feature non-conductive materials designed to channel static electricity away from shocks into the ground while being insulated for frostbite prevention in cold working environments – these types of boots comply with OSHA standards of quality and durability.
